Dogs in elk

Disclaimer: link goes to a gory (and definitely non-vegetarian friendly) story

I ran a Google search and found the “dogs in elk” story after reading a reference to it on the Dallas area raw feeding list. I thought it was pretty funny, but then again I have a pretty twisted sense of humor. I thought the pumpkin photos were a bit odd, though…

There’s also a related page there that gives a bit more history.

Luna the conqueror

A few days ago, when Joy was cleaning Luna’s cage, she set her on the bathroom counter so that she could keep an eye on her while she rinsed the cage pan. Luna has a small cardboard box we keep on the desk for her to have as a little den; she brought the box along too so she’d have somewhere to feel safe.

Lauren and Willow live on the counter in that bathroom, and Luna immediately went over to their cage to investigate. She seemed curious and friendly towards them, so Joy thought ‘well maybe she has had a change of heart’ (remember Luna was the rat we got as a companion for Willow, then had to keep separate because she hated Willow) and opened the cage so they could come out and meet her…

Bad idea. Luna puffed out her hair until she had swelled up to three or four times her usual size and then jumped on poor Lauren in the sink, making her squeak. As Joy rescued Lauren, Luna saw that Willow had gone into the cardboard box and charged in after her, and more squeaks erupted from the box. Joy managed to rescue both girls unharmed from the blue and white demon and got them safely back into their cage.

The lump (tumor?) on her neck continues to grow, but she seems to be feeling OK.

Weird tales from the stats log

Recently our weblog has started getting a lot of hits from search engines. The search engine link shows what words were searched on to hit the blog page, and I find it fascinating (and sometimes disturbing) to see what strange searches have led to our site. I also wonder what people must make of the page they found, since the blog entry usually has little or nothing to do with what it looks like they were looking for.

Here are a few of the especially interesting ones from the past few days:

“squeaky latex spider” – Interesting they chose that exact phrase. This hit an entry about Mojo’s favorite new toy. I wonder if they were looking for Halloween decorations?

“bull terrier” +art – Poor soul was probably NOT looking for a picture of a soggy dog toy in a water bowl.

growling +pit +bull +terrier +pics – I’m not even going to try and figure out what this person wanted them for. None to be found here.

worst +beer +list – I thought this was pretty funny. Bet they enjoyed the link to the Beer Advocate site.

weird +pizzas – Hmmmm…

“dog turd” – Um…OK…

raccoon +Furry – Note that ‘furry’ is capitalized. I could be wrong, but after watching last week’s CSI, all I can say when I think of what this person might have been looking for is “Ewwww!”

Probably the two most common search hits are from people looking for Beanie Babies (sorry, only reason that hits anything on my site is because of that funny EBay link I posted a while back) and searching on “Keen Eddie” information; it’s nice to see there are other Keen Eddie fans out there.

They’re baaaaaaack!

We had another recent opossum visitation. This time there were two of them on the fence, and possibly a third in the tree in the corner of our yard. Someone in our neighborhood must be leaving out cat or dog food that is attracting them. The dogs were all in an uproar over the latest ‘invasion’ and Lindsy has been on possum watch ever since.

Very cool thing we saw this weekend

Saturday evening around seven we were outside in the yard with the dogs and heard geese honking far away — lots of them. I looked up at the sky and at first I couldn’t figure out what I was seeing; it looked like far away strings of bright white Christmas lights floating along. Then I realized it was dozens of migrating geese glowing in the moonlight. Very surreal-looking. Joy and I stood there watching them as they, and another flock that came past a few minutes later, made their way southeast. It was really something cool to see.
