Finding Balance

Microsoft textbooks warp your brain

A few days ago at work, Norton Internet Security warnings popped up on all of our machines almost simultaneously. The details said that an ‘invalid ICMP code’ had been blocked, and when I checked where it originated, it showed a 172.* IP address – from our own local network. It reminded me of that old urban legend about the babysitter, so I sent a quick instant message to my coworker saying “we have to get out of here now - the pings are coming from inside the building!” Sadly, this attempt at geek wit fell flat… oh well, this is what happens when you study too much.

One down, two more to go

I went ahead and took my Microsoft 70-270 “Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional” exam this past Friday so there’d be one less exam to take on training week, and I could concentrate on the two Server 2003 books. I scored a 936 (needed 700 to pass) which was better than I expected. I don’t suppose I will repeat that feat with the other two but it made me feel a bit better that all this stuff is actually sinking into my head and staying there… my head is swimming with forests and trees and DNs and OUs… Four weeks left and I’m barely into the second book.

Pup shoots man, saves littermates

A friend just sent this… sounds like poetic justice to me.
