Spam war

For the past few weeks I have been battling an increasing amount weblog comment spam and also a terrible ongoing spam problem with the btneuro site guestbook. I’m still trying to resolve the latter, but a few days ago installed Bad Behavior and Spam Karma 2 on the blog and it seems to have helped greatly. If anyone is having any trouble posting legitimate comments please let me know.

Wheeeeee! Where did September go?

Well, we managed to have an entire month come and go without any new entries… all I can say is that it was a really busy month! One of the biggest things is that Winter went in, exactly four weeks ago, to have surgery on her left knee. She has luxating patellas (slipping kneecaps) and we have now had the worst side repaired. Once she’s had a few months to heal and we’ve managed to pay off the first surgery, we’ll have the other one done so that she’ll be able to run and play like a normal cat.

winter_surgery.jpgHere’s a picture from a few days after the surgery — she was still on pain medication which might account for the dumb look on her face. She’s still got a long way to go, but she’s using the leg a bit now; actually she’s having more trouble with the one that hasn’t been fixed yet than the surgery leg.

Another big event was that Mountain Paws Pet Stuff is now a legal entity with a tax ID and everything; we even had our first wholesale order! As luck would have it, right after we got the order, our old sewing machine broke down again, so all the profit was eaten up by the purchase of a new sewing machine. I’m not complaining, as the new machine runs a lot nicer and has some features the old one didn’t. I’m sure it will pay for itself in the long run. I spent a couple of weeks furiously sewing 48 collars and 16 leashes, which can now be found at Three Dog Bakery 🙂

Things are going well with both of our jobs and the new house, I feel like maybe our luck is finally getting better… which reminds me, another cool thing is that last week we won tickets to see the Indigo Girls and a $40 gift certificate to Asheville Pizza Company! The concert was great and it was nice to get out and do something like that… the last major concert we went to was Tori Amos back in 1998.

Observant folks might notice a few extra links at the top of the blog; I am in the midst of transferring all of the albums over to our new LinPHA photo gallery (see the “Photos” link) and all of the remaining static HTML pages over to the blog. Once that’s complete, the old site will be retired and this will be the new home page. I’ve got a new page banner design in mind (not that the red leaf one that came with this theme isn’t pretty) and plans to add stories for all of our critters and some other stuff.

Between caring for all the critters, juggling two jobs, and the collar business, I’ve not had a lot of time to work on all this so it may take a while.
