Finding Balance

When I was 7, this would have been my worst nightmare…

Honey-Curry Roasted Root Vegetables

Our yummy dinner – yellow beets, sweet potatoes, turnip, and possibly rutabaga (the Earth Fare checkout clerk and I had a dispute over this — looked like a turnip to me) tossed with toasted sesame oil, salt, pepper, curry, and honey and then roasted in the toaster oven until they caramelized a bit.

I absolutely hated all of these vegetables as a child, except beets — and Joy hated those. Recently we’ve been revisiting our childhood food enemies and found them a lot more agreeable. We’ve also been eating a lot of various kinds of squash and enjoyed them.

I still can’t stand onions, peas, and carrots, though. That hasn’t changed. I’ve tried hard to get past this but I don’t think it counts if you swallow the peas whole like vitamins.

Everything is up in the herb tray now… and the big jim peppers are sprouting like crazy. Still no sign of the tomatoes, cilantro, or sunflowers, yet.

Spring, on a small scale

No idea what these are.

Always good to see honeybees these days!

Not sure if you can see the pollen all over the bee and the flower at this magnification.

Not a welcome sight in a garden, but there’s a sort of grace to a slug.

Credit for title goes to Joy. Seriously, this is getting old…

Keep in mind this is 1-2 days worth of uh, ‘effort’ – I cleaned it off at a gas station less than 48 hours before this.

Anyone have a good recipe for robin stew?
